Why Is Ethics Important for TPE?
Ethical journalism is a set of guidelines and foundational values every professional and freelance journalists must follow. The number one standard journalists must follow is to act with integrity. The purpose of journalism is to inform the public of current events and to maintain the public’s trust—TPE is no different.
While The Phounsavath Edit is a content-based website sharing fashion and career management stories, it still must follow the principles of journalism. Oftentimes, many media outlets are becoming subjective towards certain parties or firms, as well as becoming a part of the age of misinformation. The founder/editor, Paula Phounsavath—a professional news reporter—implements what was taught to her during her undergraduate degree and throughout her early career and will strive to prevent future issues from happening in the media industry.
Preserving The Phounsavath Edit’s Neutrality
TPE does not have a say in any political parties, corporations or institutions, nor will ever endorse/partner with them for any content. TPE also does not have a say in any politics and must remain neutral when reporting or outside the website. While journalists are entitled to vote during elections, they must not raise questions about the impartiality of their work during election seasons. Journalists may engage with the community for story pitches and tips, however, they must not become subjective towards any aspect of that community. Editorial articles shall incorporate research from different perspectives of a certain topic/argument, and DO NOT reflect TPE as a whole.
Reprints and Copyright
All articles—editorials, featured stories and photo galleries—are intellectual properties of TPE. Articles may not be reposted to any other media outlets/platforms without permission of the editor. If articles are reposted or used for another outlet/platform, then credits of the intellectual property must be placed.
Advertisements and Sponsorships
The website may collaborate with any small business or organization to provide content, however, TPE must remain truthful and accurate in reporting on the collaboration. This is to avoid subjectivity, as well as conflict of interests. Any advertisements or sponsorships are not endorsed by TPE.
Accountability and Transparency
No journalist is perfect with reporting information to the public, but nevertheless, they are public figures. Therefore, it is important for TPE to take accountability and responsibility for any mistakes, errors or incorrect information on a story. Any updates or corrections will be notified to the reader in the footnote of the article. Any articles based on personal experiences must be disclosed publicly, but also encourages open discussion about the specific topic/subject. In certain stories where sources may need protection, but wishes to still speak, TPE will respect all sources to protect their privacy and well-being. Articles using protected sources will be disclosed under a pseudonym name.
Freelance Journalistic Work
TPE encourages have its journalists/writers venture off to any freelance or independent projects as they wish. However, they must not reprint their whole work or a part of their freelance work onto any TPE articles. SEE REPRINTS AND COPYRIGHT.
TPE Duty for Readers
The site’s mission is to benefit its readers with the best content of recommendations, research of the fashion industry and today’s job market, as well as relatability to its readers. Hence, TPE’s slogan ‘Sophisticated + Detailed + Intimate.’ The site will always continue to observe the foundational ethics and standards in journalism in order to provide truthful, but leisure content.
