Carytown // February 2022
It was a warm and windy day in Richmond. My mom was getting ready for a wedding, so she and I went to Carytown. While she went to get her nails done, I head to a coffee shop to write for the blog. Since some shops only had take-out options, I walked a bazillion blocks down to Roastology to grab a hot coffee and a small breakfast.
Roastology is one of those local coffee shops in the heart of downtown. Like any local coffee shop, it was overpriced (about $14 for an arugula-filed avocado sandwich and medium latte). It was filled with a mix of college students on their phones or on Zoom classes, and young professionals with their cute dogs outside chatting away.
These are the types of mornings I love. The smell and taste of the foamy lattes and immediately feeling the caffeine rush through my body makes me always want to get something done. My mind starts to race and I would always begin listing the tasks I need to get done. It felt like a school weekend morning all over again, except I graduated a few months back.
Similar to Norfolk and Virginia Beach, it had the same atmosphere. What makes the shop different was that it was home, my home. It was a place of familiarity. And, a place of warmth and nostalgia.
