RVA Fall Fashion Week 2023 // Recap

Urban Academy’s fashion show interns and models decorate a chalkboard for the debut show on October 5.

Fashion Week.

A week of fashion shows of the latest up-and-coming local designers’ collections, networking, partying and dressing up to the nines.

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to be a contributing fashion writer for Style Weekly (SW), a Richmond-based online magazine that is owned by VPM (Virginia Public Media), a non-profit news organization. As a “trial period” that the SW editor and I have made, I was able to write two stories about RVA Fashion Week. One profile piece about a fashion designer, as well as a recap of the fashion week itself.

Professionally and personally-speaking, it was such an honor to write about my hometown and the fashion community. It’s been a long time coming to write about fashion and style, since I have always had a passion for fashion when I was little. It’s only the beginning from here.

Here are some shots taken from those days.

If I had to repeat that week over again, I would in a heartbeat. This is why I love what I do. While I am pursuing a challenging degree full-time, working in journalism isn’t about working. I go out there, I talk to people and I find the answers to make a beautiful story. I am living my life, but working my butt while I’m doing the damn thing.

Here’s the link to the full stories I wrote for Style Weekly, enjoy!
